The Exhibition

The concept of "who loves who" is deeply connected to the term "interracial," signifying relationships or interactions between individuals from diverse racial or ethnic backgrounds. This display showcases photographs that intricately explore the dynamics of interracial relationships, considering the influence of systemic racism, culture, personal connections, love, and care.

Our understanding of different cultures and races often comes from portrayals in media such as movies, TV shows, and social platforms. Within this exhibition, nine interracial couples have been captured in photographs to delve into their distinct cultural perspectives, behaviors, and love for each other.

These portraits not only capture the essence of their love but also reveal the care and vulnerability they share. By presenting the portraits in a manner that challenges viewers to discern which partner loves whom, the exhibit prompts visitors to confront their unintentional biases and assumptions. The final portrait includes a QR code leading to an eBook that unveils the details of which partner loves whom, highlighting each couple's unique narrative, while emphasizing that love and care ultimately prevail. In essence, this exhibition highlights the undeniable truth that love transcends racial or ethnic differences— love is love.

Love isn't limited by boundaries or categories; instead, it thrives in dynamic, interconnected spaces that unite people. Transcending boundaries, love finds expression in the diversity and complexity of relationships unfolding between individuals with different backgrounds and experiences.

The viewer encounters 18 portraits representing diverse backgrounds and ethnicities, with an invitation to associate each portrait with the person they believe is in a relationship with. This activity serves as a reflective exercise, prompting an exploration of our own conscious thoughts and challenging unintentional biases and assumptions. Influenced by TV shows, social media, and preconceived notions about various cultures, we often tend to pair individuals based on external factors like appearance. The exercise underscores the existence of implicit biases. Additionally, it delves into the unique challenges, if any, faced by interracial relationships, situated within the broader themes of systematic racism, cultural diversity, and societal complexity. As viewers progress through the portraits, they will eventually witness the couples side by side, revealing the connections and showing which individuals are together.

The exhibition's logo captures the collective affection of each couple, prominently showcasing a heart as a symbol of love.
